To Start a radio station in Canada, you need to obtain license from Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) which is a part of the Minister of Canadian Heritage and which has been been assigned the role of regulating and supervising the radio stations operating in Canada.

To Obtain a license, you need to fill in the application form and submit at any of the above offices for processing. Licenses can be obtained for various types of radio stations like A.M band transmission, Community radio stations, Youth FM; very low power FM (transmission power of 10 watts or less), low power FM (transmission power of 50 watts or less), or a full power FM station.
Certain Urban areas have high level of competing demand for frequency allotment and it is therefore a bit difficult to obtain licenses in such areas. Broadcasting License is easier to obtain in semi urban areas as they have little competition for frequency allotment. This barring a few major urban centers of Canada, licenses are generally granted if the license application is properly put up.
